So I took some time and made converted the basic information of the monsters of the MM into a spreadsheet. It includes type, alignment, CR, AC, HP, if the creature has spellcasting abilities, and two attack damages. I only marked a creature as spellcasting if it is a certain level spellcaster or has innate spellcasting, as opposed to abilities caused by some fantastical, but not explicitly magical 'spell' abilities (dragon's breath or demonic powers). I also collapsed the damage of an attack heedless of type (Hellhounds to 1d8+3 piercing damage and 2d6 fire damage on their bite, I collapsed into 1d8+2d6+3). The damage shouldn't be used for anything more than gauging the overall damage output of a certain monster (although that can be misleading, be sure to glance at the CR and possibly what spells are available.) Anyway, the filters and such should make this a very useful resource, and this in conjunction with the (adjusted) xp and environment filters from the kobold fight club (http://kobold.club/fight/#/encounter-builder) should be able to help you do organize and select monsters any way you want.
